Front End Engineer

Engineering · Chester, Cheshire
Department Engineering
Employment Type Full-Time
Minimum Experience Experienced
Compensation £38,000 - £44,000

Bikmo is an adventure sports technology company, with a simple mission to provide exceptional services that enable our customers to spend more time exploring the great outdoors.

Focussing initially on insurance in the cycling sector, we're now live in the UK, Ireland, Germany and Austria and by utilising sector expertise, technology, a love for the sport and an open approach to data, we've won customers, partners, awards and 5-star reviews. We count the likes of British Cycling, Deliveroo, Brompton, BMW and Bikemap amongst our partners. Our vision is to become as synonymous for what we do in adventure sports as GoPro for Cameras, Oakley for eyewear or Strava for tracking.

This is an exciting opportunity for a technically excellent, creative and self-starting front end developer to join our team in developing the platform that will enable us to achieve our ambition. Rapid application development allows us to adapt to our customers' needs and stay one step ahead of the competition, so we're looking for an applicant with an agile and adaptive mind, able to spot a problem and formulate a solution.

Sector experience is not required - we're looking for team members who will challenge previously held views of how insurance companies operate, in favour of utilising technology and design to provide an exceptional experience to our customers.

The role

Under the guidance of the CTO, you will be taking the lead in developing an industry busting application to allow riders to take up membership, purchase policies, and manage their cover with ease and efficiency. The experience for the riders is key to the application and should be the highest priority.

Alongside the core Bikmo experience, you will also work on our WP based CMS in order for the rest of the team to publish engaging and useful content for potential and existing customers.

We're looking for a developer with a solid foundation in front-end engineering, with a minimum of 3 years experience. A degree is not a requirement, but a desire to learn and grow, and a passion for the work you do is essential. No experience of the insurance / finance sector is required for this role.

Salary + benefits

This role is a full time role at 38 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

The starting salary for this role is £38,000 - £44,000 per annum, dependent on experience, with bi-annual reviews and no annual cap on increases. As a growing business, our benefit structure is under review and will include a share options scheme and holiday entitlement boost.

As well as offices in beautiful Innsbruck and Munich, Bikmo’s HQ is in Chester. Under normal circumstances you would get to grips with your role sitting side-by-side with our CTO Jorj (pronounced “George”) in the Chester office. Unfortunately, these are not normal times so most of our work is currently being carried out remotely.

While this is ongoing, we will work closely with you over video calls, screen shares, and Slack to get you into the systems and up to speed on our projects as well as developing a good understanding of our existing systems, our roadmap, and our working expectations.

To keep a good connection with everyone and to stay in touch with our special culture we would ordinarily like to see team members in the office at least once a week and we hope to pick this practice back up again as soon as the situation permits.

In addition to the ability to remote work and above statutory benefits, we also offer the following:

  • 29 days holiday per year plus public holidays
  • 2 ride days + 2 volunteering days per year
  • Training budget of up to £500 per year
  • Zero commission Bikmo insurance for you and your bikes*
  • Life insurance and wellbeing package from YuLife*
  • Access to Bikmo cycle trade accounts for bikes + kit at trade prices!
  • 1 x membership to a sporting organisation/governing body (British Cycling / Cycling UK / Austrian Alpenverein / ADAC etc) up to £100/€120.

*All subject to eligibility criteria.
